After trying different ways of projection mapping, I wanted to create an installation as an experiment.
1. Using the cardboard cutouts I made to practice projection mapping.
2. Using film footage I took of my train journey from London back to Leeds
I made the film to create work that showed the movement of my tracking history. The animations move, but only in their own image, so the train film helps to get a sense of the journey.
I used one projector to project the viaduct animation onto the viaduct cutout, and another projector to project the train film to pass behind the cutout. This then created a shadow of the viaduct onto the wall and made a film frame on the wall.
How the train journey was projected meant that it was visible on top of the cutout and the wall, this created a nice layer, as did the shadow.
Going forward i want to create a cardboard city of multiple location animations. It would also be interesting to add another layer of different moving image I can take whilst doing my journeys.
I am currently making a booklet of projection installation ideas, for example, a 360o city scape projection or a tunnel projection.
